Training Focus

The Strategies for TRIO Counselors training is designed to provide you with practical and comprehensive instruction in counseling. Theme-based and experiential, Strategies for TRIO Counselors (STC) offers an exciting way to infuse your counseling tool bag with new techniques. In a fun and relaxed atmosphere, veteran as well as beginning counselors will find the training beneficial. Topics will include skill-building in the areas of reality therapy, cross-cultural counseling, conflict resolution and much more.

Who Should Attend

This training is ideal for all TRIO personnel, whether you are a seasoned veteran or brand new to the TRIO community. And it is not for counselors only! Since every member of your project staff plays an integral part in attaining student and project achievement, all members of your team can benefit from this training. ERROR MSGIn fact, participants are encouraged to attend with members of their own project to help maintain project focus and to ease implementation of changes and/or improvements that you develop relative to your responsibilities back home.

What To Expect

You can expect a dynamic, interactive training where you will have the opportunity to meet with your peers and establish nationwide support systems. You will be assigned to a trainer who will act as your guide in developing an Action Plan which will promote changes and/or improvements in a particular aspect of your responsibilities. Be ready for an intense training, one that requires your full attention. We expect participants to do just that, PARTICIPATE. With a strand model of training, STC will provide opportunities to really delve into a topic, continuing the morning’s topic with application in the afternoon. Plan your sightseeing activities for a day or two before the training starts, in the evenings (after 5:30 pm), or for Saturday afternoon after the training is completed. We’ll make a deal with you - we’ll work you hard during the training, but we guarantee that it will be worth the investment of your time and effort.

Hotel Reservations

You are responsible for making your own hotel reservation. Please make your reservations as soon as you receive notification confirming your acceptance into the training. If you delay, you may find that the room block is full and you will have to look for another hotel in the area. Also, please note the room block deadline and reserve before that date to ensure that you get the reduced room rate. When making reservations, identify yourself as a participant with ASPIRE Training Institute.

Other Information

This training is funded by the US Department of Education, so there is no registration fee. In addition, breakfast and afternoon breaks are provided daily.  Lunch is provided on Day 3.  All other meals are on your own. No stipends are provided.

We look forward to meeting you in 2001!
