Dr. Hershey completed his undergraduate studies at Yale University and earned his medical degree from Cornell University Medical College.  He was a resident in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Southern California and is a Fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists.

He completed his postdoctoral studies in prenatal genetics and fetal ultrasound at University of California Los Angeles.  Dr. Hershey is board certified in both clinical Genetics and Clinical Cytogenetics by the American Board of Medical Genetics.  He is also certified in consultative fetal ultrasound by the California Department of Health Services.

Before moving to Sacramento in 1987, Dr. Hershey was on the medical faculty at the University of Colorado.  He has published numerous articles and lectured extensively on the subject of prenatal diagnosis.  Dr. Hershey is currently on the clinical faculty of the University of California Davis School of Medicine.  He has performed over 20,000 amniocentesis and 2,000 CVS procedures.

ERROR MSGDr. Filkins has been a professional colleague of Dr. Hershey for many years.  She is known internationally for her work in prenatal diagnosis.  Dr. Filkins is author of many scientific publications and is the co-editor of the text book, Prenatal Diagnosis

 

Dr. Filkins has been performing prenatal diagnosis procedures for over twenty years, and has performed over 15,000 genetic amniocenteses.  She was a participant in the first USA studies of chorionic villus sampling in 1985, and has performed over 3,000 CVS procedures. One of Dr. Filkins' main interests is the detection of birth defects by ultrasound.  She is an active member of the Teratology Society, and she is certified in consultative fetal ultrasound by the Genetics Disease Branch of the California State Health Department.

Before moving to California in 1997, Dr. Filkins was on the full time faculty of several east coast medical schools.  Dr. Filkins currently resides in Los Angeles, where she is Director of Reproductive Genetics and Head of the Prenatal Diagnosis program in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at UCLA School of Medicine.  She is board certified in both Obstetrics and Gynecology and Clinical Genetics.   She travels from Los Angeles to work at Prenatal Diagnosis of Northern California during times when Dr. Hershey is not available.

Carl Otto, M.D., F.A.C.O.G.

Dr. Otto is Director of the Perinatal Ultrasound and Fetal Diagnosis and Therapy Department at California Pacific Medical Center in San Francisco.  He has been performing fetal ultrasound, amniocentesis and CVS procedures for over ten years.  Overall, he has performed 10,000 amniocentesis and 1,000 CVS procedures.

He is board certified in both Obstetrics and Gynecology and Maternal-Fetal Medicine.  In addition, the Genetics Disease Branch of the California State Department of Health Services has certified him as a State provider of services.
